There was a time where leggings were commonly used as under garments to keep your legs warm and toasty, but I’m sure you’ve noticed, times have changed.
Not only are they still comfortable, but they have made their way from being ordinary under garments to being THE garment that shows off and enhances your silhouette!
Below are some ways I would style jersey and printed/patterned leggings.
When it comes to regular solid black leggings, there is literally an infinite amount of ways to style them. They are such a staple and I strongly believe they belong in every woman’s closet.
Take these H&M Jersey Leggings for example,
• Dressed Down •
The possibilities are endless when dressing down with black leggings.
To add personality to the trend, graphic T’s, a printed beanie and a camo jacket can do the trick.
Girly it up with some sneaker wedges or stack bracelets and a relaxed crossbody bag and you’re good to go!
• Dressed Up •
To set the tone for this outfit I chose a colorful afrocentric necklace and ostrich feathered skirt.
One of the most obvious differences between black leggings and stockings is that your feet are exposed.
I like to use that to my advantage by pairing my leggings with shoes that reach my ankle and cover the bottom of where my leggings end.
I have to seriously get this outfit for myself. O_o
This would be a great transitional outfit from winter to spring wouldn’t you agree?
Printed/Patterned Leggings are another trend that allows us to really personalize our outfits. Below I set up two ways in styling them as well.
• Dressy Casual (Pattern) •
Since these leggings are following an abstract native pattern, I paired them with structural pieces that complement its pattern.
The crop top has triangular cut outs, similar to that of the lined pattern on the leggings.
Which throw-over would you choose for this outfit? Vest or Blazer?
For a pop of color, I’d choose the blazer, but for a more sophisticated and subtle approach, I’d choose the vest all the way.
• Dressed Up (Print) •
For prints, I love to think outside the box when styling because you can really tell a story.
Take these awesome TOPSHOP cat face printed leggings for example.
It’s important to know that in styling, not everything has to match, especially in color.
If they did, how else would people set their own trends and be unique?
When I see these leggings, I’m picturing someone fierce, daring, and possibly prudent.
I also see different shades of black, brown, beige, grey and white.
Working with the characteristics and color scheme I’ve observed from the leggings, I chose the accent colors red and green to best represent such.
Then I brought everything together by using blacks to soften the look.
There are so many other styles of leggings out there including mesh and leather which I will definitely touch up on another day, but in the mean time, I really hope this helps stir your mind in styling any leggings you own!
If you have Polyvore, I would love to see what styles you come up with!
